Isn’t it a
coincidence that the two best teams in major league baseball (in terms
of records) during the regular season played each other in the second
round of the playoffs which was for the American League Pennant. At
first a 3-1 lead seemed to be insurmountable for the
Boston
Red Sox and too close for a series clinching victory for the
Cleveland Indians. A lot of the country that the tribe had the series
in the bag when they won their third straight game and taking one in
Boston’s house before heading back to Cleveland for the
middle three games. You would have thought that Cleveland would have
won the fourth and last game in the ALCS. Guess again! Boston stole the
momentum and eventually the pennant in seven games. The
Cleveland
Indian’s merchandise has been selling good
especially during the later months of this baseball season. The Indians
would not have been one of the teams the experts would have picked to
most likely win 96 games because there are a few other teams who appear
to be more qualified of such an honor. Anyways the city of Cleveland
has been plagued with bad luck as with the
Chicago
Cubs over the past 99 years. Cleveland hasn’t won a
national title in any major sport since sometime around 1960 if I
remember correctly. That would seem like a thought to me. It seems as
if Cleveland chokes in big games instead of rising to the occasion like
other big named teams have done. Anyways I think the drought is
destined to be over sometime within the next half century because I
think by then a Cleveland franchise will finally overcome any and all
obstacles to achieve something that a lot of their citizens
can’t say they have done and that is celebrate with their
national championship team.
